Love the Band, Love Yourself
>> If you don’t know who Lovelytheband is, they are an indie pop band out of Los Angeles that recently signed with Another Century Records and dropped their debut EP, Everything I Could Never Say... Mitchy Collins (vocalist), Jordan Greenwald (guitarist), and Sam Price (drummer) make up the band’s trio. After their performance in Buffalo Riverworks for the last night of Alternative Buffalo’s the Kerfuffle Before Christmas, Floated had a chance to learn about their passion for food, movies, and how they cope with depression.
In order to “do it right”, before playing their set at Buffalo Riverworks this “big wing band” energized themselves with Duff’s Buffalo Wings. Mitchy is a huge fan of the hot wings while Sam likes them “hot, but not too hot that I can not eat it. I want to enjoy it, I don’t want to be sweating.” Sam also loves to eat fast sandwiches, “which [are] like a garbage plate on a bun.” His favorite one is a “‘Fat Bitch’: mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, philly cheese steak, fries, marinara sauce, ketchup and mustard all in a roll.” These mouth drooling combinations make New Jersey a new culinary attraction. Another interesting Dish that Sam has indulged in is a sandwich that his dad made for him. It was “a piece of bread in a pan with bologna and then he put mustard, mayo, and Fritos on it and fried it...and that’s why I look like this now. It’s so good!”
After a lengthy conversation on food, the band revealed where they drew their inspiration for the latest EP. Mitchy has battled with depression by “trying to take one day at a time.” The music is about “the idea that it is okay to have a bad day, to have anxiety, to have depression” and “that there is someone out there that is going through the same things as you, and you know that they are going to love you just the way you are.” Weaving in the conversation about mental health is essential to heal a society, and music is a wonderful way to help people feel less alone in their struggle.
Everyone has their own ways of coping with sadness, we asked Lovelytheband what they do to feel better. Mitchy prefers to get out of his house as soon as he can, and surround himself with friends and people that care about him. Sam FaceTimes his mom, and Jordan talks with his friends about his feelings. We then asked what movies they watched to chase away the blues. Everyone agreed on Step Brothers, Elf, Talladega Nights (...pretty much anything with Will Ferrell) and Almost Famous. So if you’re in a shitty mood and you feel like the world is caving in on you, just watch your favorite movie, talk to some friends, and remember you’re not alone! <<
