>> Grandoozy opened at Overland Park for the very first time September 14th. With 55,000 attendees over three days and sold out vendors Sunday evening as Stevie Wonder captivated the crowd with some of America’s most beloved hits, all signs point to a smashing success.
Those attendees visiting from out of state were introduced to local wineries and breweries beloved by natives as well as a tantalizing train of food trucks and restaurants. Each day three local artist came out to show off their street art chops at the center of the festival revealing a new three-sided mural every morning while just next door festival goers played carnival games with a South Park twist.
The festival included a diverse range of musical acts across three stages with eight local bands such as Denver’s own AZMY, who opened the Rock stage Friday afternoon, to the iconic verses of Kendrick Lamar to bring the first day to a close with fireworks. On Saturday fans awaited Florence and The Machine with such anticipation many camped out at the barricades all day sending only a select few back through the ever-growing crowd for STKs wagyu sliders and beer runs to the Arts and Crafts tap tent. Sunday showed an ever-shifting crowd as attendees rushed from stage to stage not wanting to miss a single performance as Mavis Staples, De La Soul, St. Vincent, Logic, and the Chainsmokers all put on captivating shows leading up to a Stevie Wonder dance party as fans of all ages grooved to Superstition and a beautiful cover of Billie Jean in tribute to the king of pop Micheal Jackson.
A five-year contract with Superfly will see this festival continue to grow as a positive buzz still fills the Denver air. Locals from the area are impressed with the diligent cleaning crew that kept both the park and surrounding streets spotless and the generosity of the Grandoozy team that gave each neighboring household two tickets to all the action. Grandoozy is surely on track to join the ranks of Superfly’s Bonnaroo in the years to come. <<
