Single Premiere - Ponder: Greener

>> ponder is a rock band with a niche for crafting soulful and funky original music. Known locally in Buffalo, NY for their electrifying live performances, ponder has been hard at work bringing their brand of exciting live music to people all over the state. In 2018 ponder added to their list of festivals appearances which previously included Buffalove 2016 and Rochester Fringe Fest 2016 & 2017, extending the list of appearances to include “Cobblestone Live Music and Arts Festival”, “Music is Art Festival”, and “Rock Autism Music Festival." They had the opportunity to open shows for acts such as LITZ, After Funk, The Werks, BIG Something, Mungion, Formula 5, and Kung Fu.

The group toured throughout NYS as well as into Burlington, VT this past summer, along the way visiting cities including Syracuse, Rochester, Ithaca, Jamestown and more. The group is building off this momentum to venture even further in 2019. Starting in March, the funk-rock band will be on the road to bring their energetic live set to new ears around North America. The group will be stopping in Hamilton at The Doors Pub with support from local groups Foxhound and Forever Distracted, before heading out to Montreal, QC to play at La Marche à côté with Andria Piperni. On March 14th, ponder will play a set on the legendary Nectar’s stage for their first time, along with local group The Melting Nomads. The group will visit Plattsburgh’s Monopole Bar for the first time, and then will head out to Albany to play at Parish Public House. St. Patrick’s Day will bring the band home, where they are headlining Buffalo Iron Works with support from local group, Mosswalk.

The band set aside some time from gigging this winter to work in their Rochester-based studio to record “Greener”, a multi-dimensional groove rock song that highlights some of the band’s most recognizable traits. The dueling guitar phrases, bouncing bass line, and upbeat, crisp drums are filled in with thoughtful lyrics and an earworm melody with lush, layered harmonies. The song builds on previous releases and offers an uplifting lyrical theme about sticking together in hard times and keeping life enjoyable through monotony and transition. The tune is tied together by its danceable instrumental, making it a true feel-good song. “Greener” showcases a look at the angular approach ponder takes towards songwriting, and is a jumping-off point for the upcoming EP.
