Shane Durgee graduated from Syracuse University with a BFA in Illustration in 1998. After graduation, he pursued a career in the fantasy and science fiction illustration market. Realizing that this was not a strong fit for him, Shane shifted his focus to expressive work. He earned an MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology where he currently works as a professor and Gallery Coordinator for RIT's Bevier Gallery. He describes his work as "a contemplation of how American identities are constructed during childhood through a matrix of outside influences dominated by mass media and consumerism." Nostalgic influences such as cartoons, video games, and album covers are abstracted, "mirroring the fog of memory." Shane's latest show, "Bogus Ascension," can be viewed at Fuego Coffee Roasters until the end of September!
