>>Columbus-based industrial metal act Unchipped will unveil their long-awaited self-titled debut album on April 11 at the Spacebar. Today, we are giving you a sneak peek of the upcoming album with the single “Big Man.”
Since forming in 2017 originally as a Ministry cover band, Unchipped’s main focus has been performing non-stop throughout Ohio, especially at the Spacebar—a venue they’re quite familiar with. But after finishing recording their self-titled debut album at Weird Music Studios, the metal quartet are finally sharing the blistering and scorching new single “Big Man.”
“Big Man” opens with a police scanner depicting a shooting before the galloping rhythm section and spiraling guitar riffs shoot through, followed by the roaring vocals and growls from frontman Pat Snyder. Back in 2018, the band shared a demo of the new single on their Bandcamp page.
In an interview with Columbus Alive last fall, bassist Ty Owen detailed the upcoming album’s politically charged lyrics that grapple with issues of gun violence, police brutality and corruption. “I think [the music] is a reflection of reality,” Owen said. “There’s no shtick in it. There’s no shock. It’s not an Alice Cooper act. If you’re shocked by it, take a look at the world around you. Nothing in any of our songs is a shock. It’s a wake-up call.”
