>>Rochester rock outfit Old Fame have emerged from Wicked Squid Studios, brandishing a new song “Short Cub.” It’s been a year since they hit the scene with their self-titled debut, and the first taste of their upcoming sophomore EP does not disappoint. Front man Ben Armes captures the restless uneasiness of modern life, the words referencing working class struggles while being bombarded with “marketing in books and magazines that portray the American dream.” Fueled by the psychological struggle that’s being portrayed lyrically, the music rides mercurial tides of dramatic tension. “It all seems so out of control,” Armes bellows as the guitar, bass, and drums crest to a primal sonic apex. This dissonance gives way to slower, steadier instrumental convergence before building to another wave. It’s easy to pick up on the influence of bands like Circa Survive, Manchester Orchestra, and Thrice. If you’re looking for new rock music, you’ll find “Short Cub” a satisfying fix.
